Just had to let you know that Sani Lodge was one of the best traveling experiences I've had! The natives who run the lodge were extremely knowledgeable in so many aspects of the rain forest and life in the Amazon. It was an eye-opening experience.
The beauty of it goes even deeper for me in that the lodge is owned and operated by the natives of the Sani Isla Community with any profits going back into bettering the community, rather than some foreign powerhouse.
Both the native and English speaking guides were extremely knowledgeable and truly passionate about explaining the various species of plants and their unique properties, showing us as many indigenous animals as they could, and describing the function of the ecosystem of the rainforest as a whole.
The young and talented chef, Ivan, created wonderful candlelight dinners each evening, the manager Juan treated us as kings, Alfonso our native guide would create bridges across swamps for us to cross in the blink of an eye, Orlando, the “Don” of the lodge would sing beautiful Quichua songs at night that sometimes we could sit in on after just a little coaxing, the rooms were impeccable when returning from the jungle each day, the list goes on.
I wish much success to the lodge and community. Hello to all the extraordinary people who make lodge what it is and thank you for showing me a genuinely unique and fulfilling experience!
